Course Description
Summer Theory Intensive is online!
Starting July 2, 2024, The Royal Conservatory will again be offering online theory classes for Levels 9 to ARCT Theory and History. These classes will be delivered online via Zoom (no hybrid or in-person options), taught by RCM Examiners, and available to students across North America. When registering please be aware that classes times are listed in Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Students should be at least 14 years old as of the start of the course.
NOTE: Tuition does not include textbooks or exam. Students are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks and registering for exams. ARCT-level Theory and History classes are only offered during the Summer Term.
New Concepts
- the Romantic Era (Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Liszt, Verdi, Wagner, Tchaikovsky)
- the Modern Era (Mahler, Ravel, Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, Bartok, Prokofiev, Messiaen, Ligeti, Copland, Coulthard, Cage, Reich, Schafer)
- Independent Study Essay Topics (Musical Theatre, Jazz, or Technology in Music)
REQUIRED COURSE TEXTS
Students must purchase the required course texts prior to the first class from the
RCM Bookstore or a local music retailer.
