Jan Lisiecki: Award-Winning RCM Alumnus
Jan Lisiecki:
Award-Winning
RCM Alumnus
Hailed by The New York Times as “a pianist who makes every note count”, Royal Conservatory alumnus Jan Lisiecki began playing piano at the age of five in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
He would make his orchestral debut just four years later, all the while rebuffing the label of ‘child prodigy’.
An Extraordinary Young Artist
Starting Out
At 13, Jan earned the highest academic credentials of The Royal Conservatory Certificate Program and subsequently joined its acclaimed Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists. During this time he was the focus of the documentary The Reluctant Prodigy and at 15, Jan signed an exclusive recording contract with the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label.
Jan entered The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School (GGS) in 2011. While at GGS, Jan debuted with the New York Philharmonic, and was named the Gramophone Young Artist of the Year. Today, Jan is enjoying a thriving career as an internationally celebrated artist. He performs more than 80 concerts a year with many of the world’s best orchestras, led by the most esteemed conductors of our time. The Royal Conservatory is proud to count him among our many illustrious alumni.
After signing with Deutsche Grammophon, I was offered full scholarships to many prestigious schools. Only with my scholarship at The Glenn Gould School was I able to remain in Canada, while receiving the best education and support possible.
