Welcome to the Fall '24 edition of The Royal Conservatory’s “Of Note” – our curated list of activities taking place from October to December 2024.
Fall 2024

Supporting Student Success 

  • Oct 10 | 8:00PM: Royal Conservatory Orchestra with conductor Tania Miller and soloist Isabella Perron, violin 

    • Consisting of orchestral students from The Royal Conservatory’s post-secondary Glenn Gould School, the RCO is widely considered to be one of the finest training ensembles in North America. They will perform works by Berlioz, Brahms and Sibelius. Tickets from $25
  • Oct 16: Deadline for November/December 2024 examination registration – US 

    • Register here for December RCM Certificate Program in-person examinations (practical and theory) in the United States. Take a remote exam anytime! 
  • Nov 1 | 7:30PM: The Glenn Gould School Chamber Opera Presents Ravel & Debussy 

    • Students from The Glenn Gould School’s vocal program present a double bill of Maurice Ravel’s L'enfant et les sortilèges and Claude Debussy’s Prodigal Son​. Tickets starting at $20
    • Second performance takes place Nov 2 | 7:30PMTickets starting at $20

  • Nov 5: Deadline for December 2024/January 2025 examination registration – Canada

  • Nov 22 | 8:00PM: Royal Conservatory Orchestra with conductor Earl Lee and soloist Anna Štube, violin 

    • Widely considered one of the finest training ensembles in North America, the Royal Conservatory Orchestra (RCO) consists of post-secondary orchestral students from The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School. They will perform works by Strauss, Britten and Rachmaninov. Tickets from $25
  • Recognizing Achievement 

    • Convocation and Celebration of Excellence events take place across the United States and Canada beginning October 20.  Email invitations have been sent to eligible students and their teachers ... please RSVP if you haven't done so already. Congratulations again to all and especially to the Class of 2024 – we are so proud to call you alumni of The Royal Conservatory!

  • Music Appreciation Classes at the Oscar Peterson School of Music  learn more about the music you love!

    • Oct 10 | 10:00AM Intervals in Music: Their Use, Meaning, and Power (5 sessions)
      This series will guide you through the significant and signature intervals found in music from the Renaissance to the Modern era.  

    • Nov 14 | 10:00AM Madama Butterfly  
      In this lively presentation, key passages from Puccini’s beloved opera will be demonstrated and discussed.  

  • Nov 11 | 8:30PM: Teaching Beginner Violin (Pedagogy) 

    • Based on The Royal Conservatory’s Violin Series, 2021 Edition, this in-person course focuses on Preparatory to Level 4, linking technique to etudes and repertoire. This is a one-hour weekly course until February 2025. Learn more

  • Nov 2 | 8:00PM: Pilar with The Royal Conservatory Strings and Bria Skonberg Quintet 

    •  Italian singer Ilaria Pilar Patassini blends the singer-songwriter tradition with jazz, folk, pop, and classical music. Tickets starting from $50
  • Nov 9 | 8:00PM: Kavakos Plays Bach (#1) 

    • Leonidas Kavakos is recognized across the world as a violinist and artist of rare quality, acclaimed for his matchless technique, captivating artistry, and superb musicianship, and the integrity of his playing. Tickets starting at $55
    • Kavakos Plays Bach #2 takes place Nov 10 | 5:00PM. Tickets starting at $55

  • Nov 16 | 8:00PM: Thandiswa Mazwai and special guest Kunle 

    • One of South Africa’s most influential singers, Thandiswa Mazwai brings her unique blend of traditional Xhosa rhythms, mbaqanga, kwaito, and jazz to Koerner Hall! Tickets starting from $45
  • Dec 7 | 8:00PM: Czech Philharmonic conducted by Semyon Bychkov (2 performances with special guests) 

    • In existence for over a century, the Czech Philharmonic is one of the great orchestras of Europe. The orchestra makes its Koerner Hall debut and will perform works by Dvořák, Smetana, and Mahler. Tickets starting from $100. 
  • Into the Woods – begins December 28 | 7:00PM (4 performances) 

    • One of Stephen Sondheim’s most popular works, this Tony Award-winning musical takes everyone’s favourite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless yet relevant modern classic! An In Concert production presented by The Royal Conservatory with director Richard Ouzounian and music director, Paul Sportelli. Four performances beginning December 28. Tickets starting from $75. Join us for a special New Year’s Eve performance with an exclusive after-party to celebrate the start of 2025 in style!

  • Master Classes at The Glenn Gould School 

    • Our master class program is one of the finest in North America where musical artists of the highest calibre work with our students. Some of this fall’s Glenn Gould School master class artists include pianist Emmanuel Ax (October 5); violinist Ida Kavafian (October 25); Ihnatowycz Chair in Piano, Jeremy Denk (November 15); soprano Barbara Hannigan (November 27); and pianist Anton Nel (December 6)! Classes take place in either Mazzoleni Hall or Temerty Theatre
  • RoyalConservatory.Live is the RCM’s free video-on-demand platform featuring concerts filmed at The Royal Conservatory’s Koerner Hall! Recent additions include the Royal Conservatory Orchestra’s performance of Murphy, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky – the same program they performed at their Carnegie Hall debut in May 2024!
