Not-to-be-missed: Concerto Competition Highlights Best of the Best
Watch some of The Glenn Gould School’s top students as they showcase their artistic abilities at the finals of the school’s Concerto Competition on January 29, 2020 in Koerner Hall.

Open to current full-time Bachelor of Music, Performance (Honours) and Artist Diploma students, The Glenn Gould School (GGS) Concerto Competition provides a unique opportunity for talented young artists to perform as soloists in front of a panel of GGS faculty and special guest adjudicators.

“Performance opportunities are central to the training offered at GGS – they are critical to the development of students as they prepare for careers as professional musicians”, says Dean James Anagnoson. “And part of what makes studying here unique is the number of opportunities our students get to perform. It’s not like this at all music schools, and our students are better prepared when they graduate because of it.”

During the competition, students compete for the Tom Thomas Music Award, which provides cash prizes to the winners, and an opportunity to perform a concerto with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra during the 2020-21 concert season.

Student soloists will perform on Koerner Hall’s legendary Steinway piano. In the video below, watch how this exceptional instrument was chosen for the opening of The Royal Conservatory’s internationally acclaimed Hall by Dean Anagnoson, of celebrated piano duo Anagnoson & Kinton, who was involved in the purchase.

The Glenn Gould School Concerto Competition Finals take place on Wednesday, January 29 beginning at 10:00 am. Free tickets are now available online, at the box office or by phone at 416.408.0208.
