It was a spectacular night in Koerner Hall as students competed in the finals of the annual Glenn Gould School Chamber Competition on March 26. This competition is made possible through generous support provided in honour of R.S. Williams & Sons Company Ltd. The competition is also supported by a generous gift from the late Claudia Krawchuk.
After a preliminary round of performances that included twenty-one different ensembles from The Glenn Gould School (GGS), six finalists were selected to compete for the coveted opportunity to perform in front of an appreciative Koerner Hall audience, as well as $11,000 in cash prizes.
“This week the young artists of The Glenn Gould School brought passion, joy, and inspiration to their thrilling performances in our annual chamber music competition,” said Barry Shiffman, Associate Dean and Director of Chamber Music. “This evening is a much-loved signature event of the school. Congratulations to all who participated.”
The Bronde Duo, comprised of Maria Jojatu (BMus ’26) and Ehrentraud Moser (BMus ’26), violins, won the coveted Grand Prize with their performance of Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins, op. 56.

The Finalist judges included internationally renowned pianist and teacher Max Levinson, piano; violist and chamber musician Lesley N. Robertson, former member of the St. Lawrence String Quartet (SLSQ); and American flautist, conductor and educator Ransom Wilson, an artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
