Anya Alexeyev to Join Piano Faculty at The Taylor Academy

The Royal Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Anya Alexeyev. She will begin at The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists as a member of the piano faculty in September 2021.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome Anya Alexeyev to the piano faculty of The Royal Conservatory,” said Barry Shiffman, Director of The Taylor Academy. “Anya’s accomplishments on the concert stage are exemplary, and her ability to inspire and train exceptional young artists is outstanding. I am so excited to see her join our community."
 
Born in Moscow into a family of concert pianists, Alexeyev started studying at the Gnessin School of Music at the age of five, and in 1989 entered the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory to become a student of renowned professor Dmitri Bashkirov. The following year she was awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London. While studying there, Alexeyev won numerous prizes including the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Award for "the most outstanding contribution to the Royal College of Music", first prize at the Newport International Piano Competition for Young Pianists, the Young Concert Artists Trust, and Capitol One’s Anna Instone Memorial Award.
 
Throughout her career, Alexeyev has appeared in such venues as Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna Konzerthaus, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Herod Atticus Odeon at the Acropolis in Athens, The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the StPetersburg Philharmonia, Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Johannesburg Symphony Hall, Dewan Filarmonik Petronas in Kuala Lumpur, Palais Montcalm in Quebec City, the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, and Bargemusic in New York.
 
She has performed concertos with numerous distinguished orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic, the Moscow State Symphony, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, City of Birmingham Symphony, Bournemouth Symphony and Sinfonietta, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, London Mozart Players, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, English Chamber Orchestra, Belgian National Orchestra, and Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, collaborating with such conductors as Yuri Temirkanov, Yuri Simonov, Sakari Oramo, Kees Bakels, and James Judd.
 
Anya Alexeyev has an extensive solo repertoire, ranging from baroque to cutting edge contemporary music. As well, she has been a participant in many chamber music festivals in Europe and North America. She has recorded for EMI, Dutton Epoch, Toccata Classics, and Marquis Classics labels. Her performances have been broadcast by BBC Radio 3 (UK), GMTV (UK), CBC (Canada), Deutschland Radio, and numerous other radio stations around the world. In 1995, she premiered Paul McCartney’s first solo piano piece, A Leaf, which was later released on CD for EMI Classics.

Anya is a wonderfully gifted artist whose performances have been a source of inspiration to audiences around the world. She is also an exceptionally caring mentor and will undoubtedly provide outstanding guidance to The Taylor Academy's gifted young artists.
