Violin Symposium

May 23 – 26, 2023 at The Royal Conservatory in Toronto

The Violin Symposium is a pedagogy event focused on nurturing excellence in artistic, technical, and performance skills and the 2023 edition (May 23 to 26) was a huge success kicking off with a full-day pedagogy intensive followed by three days of workshops, master classes and performances.  

Highlights of the Symposium included workshops and the Dean’s Master Class with internationally acclaimed violinist Ray Chen, the finale performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major with celebrated violinist Jinjoo Cho, RCM faculty members Min-Jeong Koh and Barry Shiffman plus students of The Glenn Gould School and The Rebanks Family Fellowship Program, the Contemporary Violin Makers Exhibition, and wonderful performances by students and faculty of The Taylor Academy as well as those in the Oscar Peterson Program at the Oscar Peterson School of Music. 

Highlights from the 2022 Symposium are now available on the RCM Teacher Portal and highlights from the 2023 Symposium will be posted in the coming months.

2023 Contemporary Violin Makers Exhibition

On May 24, we hosted some of Canada's finest violin makers:  Itzel Ávila, Louis Gord, Guy Harrison, André Lavoye, John Newton, David Prentice, Stephen Quinney, Sibylle Ruppert, Mark Schnurr, Guillaume Turgeon and Greg Walke. We thank them for their participation and look forward to welcoming them again soon!
