New Production Residency Program aims to Help Students Gain Valuable Industry Experience

The Royal Conservatory’s Performing Arts Division is excited to announce its first Production Residency Program, designed to offer recent production graduates and senior production students from equity priority groups valuable hands-on knowledge and ease their entry into professional production roles.

Over a 6-month period, from June through November 2022, the selected residents will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from leading domain experts with one of the best production crews in Canada.

The four paid field residencies aim to fulfill the practical knowledge of the profession and infuse training with much-needed pragmatic, applied, and practical knowledge to assist the participants in applying what they know to different situations. The sessions will focus on audio, video, lighting, and staging used in the live concert and events industry.

Successful applicants will be trained in live and digital production with hands-on project assignments and opportunities for job shadowing. The production residents will be assigned to a variety of events, including concerts, corporate events, and conferences across multiple venues within the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, home of The Royal Conservatory.

To fulfill the residency requirement, the residents must assist with at least 25 live events over the course of the residency and accumulate at least 200 hours. There will be opportunities for group training and mentorship, e-mentoring, one-to-one, as well as peer mentoring.

The program will follow the Toronto Arts Council’s Equity Framework and select candidates from communities designated as equity priority groups. Interested candidates should submit their application by May 15, 2022.
